RIDE

HOW MANY MILES IS ENOUGH?

CHOOSE YOUR FONDO.

Three different rides, one big party. All kinds of fun.

ABOUT THE PICCOLO

Our party-forward and family-friendly Piccolo Fondo is back! This year's route is 24 miles, mainly on flat, paved trails. You'll roll out of the brewery at 11am along with our police escort, who’ll deliver you right to the edge of the fabulous network of Three Rivers Park District trails, which you'll take all the way to Hopkins. Just a few short blocks after exiting the trail, you'll arrive at Pizza Luce for mid-ride refreshments prior to heading back to the block party following the same route you took to get out there. We'll have signs to help you navigate, and you'll be rolling with our very best Party Ambassadors from the Joyful Riders Club if you need help along the way!

ABOUT THE MEDIO

Maybe you're getting your season off to a solid but moderate start. Maybe sitting in the saddle for 100 miles isn't in the cards for you this year - and that’s okay! Let's be honest, 50 miles is still plenty for a Saturday morning. Whatever your reason is, we've designed the MEDIO route just for you. You’ll be entirely on roads with the Medio, and we’ll have signs posted and GPS routes available. With an aid station half(ish) way through, you'll be back in NE MPLS before you know it and in great shape to join the party festivities. The Medio rolls out at 10am this year, so no sleeping in!

ABOUT THE GRAN

What's better than riding 50 miles with nearly 2,000 friends? Riding 100 miles with nearly 2,000 friends, duh. The Fondo completes a 100-or-so mile loop encompassing urban road riding, suburban side streets, some wide-open country roads, and makes stops at 3 aid stations along the way. This year we’re excited to offer a short timed segment for those that sign up for the Gran! Details are in the FAQ section below. After the ride when you arrive back at our NE MPLS production brewery, you'll be received and celebrated by thousands of party goers, and as much Fulton beer as necessary to recoup.

THE ROUTES & ROLL OUT TIMES

As always, the Gran rolls out at 9am. This year, the Medio goes off at 10am and Piccolo will roll out at 11am. Hop on over to our routes page to download the maps for use with Garmin Connect, Map My Ride, or Ride With GPS. Not a GPS user? Rad, we'll have signs marking every turn on all three routes! Looking to use a different GPS navigation program? Follow the Garmin link to your route, then click on the three dots in the lower right corner of the box to download the file in either GPX or FIT format depending on your needs. Follow the instructions from your desired program to upload the file. For those new to using GPS on the bike, you'll need either a GPS cycling computer or a cycling/fitness navigation program on your phone in order to use these routes. You will not be able to simply open the link in your browser on the morning of the ride and hit the road.

FAQs

  • Fulton's Fondo is a series of multi-length cycling rides starting at our production brewery in Northeast Minneapolis (not the taproom!) on May 4, 2024.

  • Nope! It's a ride that is open to riders of all abilities. To spice things up, riders on our 100 mile Gran route will ride through a five or so mile "speed trap" section shortly after the first rest stop. Times will be reported anonymously using the number on the timing chip on the back of the rider plates, so those who care can see where they stack up. Don't ride like a goober just to get through the timed section, or the full routes, the fastest. There are no prizes for either, but there are consequences if you ride unsafely or illegally.

  • There are three routes to choose from. The Piccolo (24 mi), the Medio (50 mi), and the Gran (100 mi).

The Piccolo uses a combination of roads and paved, and has one rest stop in Hopkins

The Medio and Gran are on paved roads entirely. The Medio has one rest stop in Deephaven, and the Gran has three rest stops in Carver, Cologne, and Deephaven.

  • Old enough to ride 22, 50, or 100 miles safely on open roads and trails. You know your kids better than we do. We trust your judgment. Trailers and trailer cycles are totally fine if you've got itsy bitsy future Fondo riders you want to bring along!

  • 9am for the Gran

    10am for the Medio

    and 11am for the Piccolo

We'll post rest stop operating hours on the Fondo website if you need/want to start earlier or later and wish to plan your day around those operating hours.

  • No. We use a "rolling enclosure" provided by MPD to start all three rides, so you'll be able to run stop lights and signs within that enclosure for the first few miles. After the police and our team riders pull off to the side, you'll need to follow all traffic laws.

  • You don't! We use route signs to mark every turn on all three routes. All you need to worry about is showing up, and making it through the ride. That said, we will provide GPS route links closer to the event for the high tech crew, and we have had route signs get stolen during the ride before, so having at least one person in your group running the GPS file isn't the worst idea. Get GPS route links here.

  • Whatever you've got. We've seen it all over the years. The routes are 100% paved, so a road bike is going to be the most efficient, but gravel, fat, mountain, cyclocross, hybrid, hand cycle, or even BMX bikes (if you're into bad ideas) would be fine. Ebikes are allowed as well, as long as they meet all regulations.

  • You do. Please have it on when you're riding around the brewery before and after the ride, too. It's as much an insurance thing as it is a good idea because our first aid skills start and end at duct tape…

  • We send tool kits and a small selection of inner tubes, cables, etc. out to each rest stop with our crew, but you are on your own between the stops.

We've laid the route out to pass either directly in front of, or very close to a ton of shops if you need to get fixed up in a more serious manner. We've also routed to pass a suspiciously large number of Fulton accounts if it's your emotions that need the kind of repair that only a cold Lonely Blonde and a burger can deliver.

  • Fruit, water, bars, and sports drinks will be available at all stops.

The Piccolo route stops at Pizza Luce in Hopkins, so they'll have the full menu available if you want to sit down for lunch and a beer before heading back. The Carver and Cologne stops for the Gran are at gas stations, so you can also hammer all the rollerdogs and caffeine you can handle, if you please. We recommend bringing a credit card on the ride if that's your jam.

Deephaven has a gas station, a grocery store, and a couple restaurants just past it on the route, but the stop itself is in a church parking lot.

  • There's beer! You get one free with your entry, and we'll be pouring them all afternoon and well into the evening at the block party.

  • The world class team from our taproom kitchen will be cranking out some classics, and we'll have a couple food trucks as well. Food's not covered with your ride entry fee, but hey, we did just buy you that beer so partial credit, right?

  • At the free, secure bike corral (open Noon-8pm) run by the fantastic folks from Joyful Riders! You'll have a tab on your rider wristband to get your bike parked for free. If you're just riding to the block party and not doing the ride, there's a small fee to use the corral.

Please don't lock up on fences, trees, barricades, etc. We need those spaces kept clear for the sake of safety and some mid-day rearranging we do to the event layout.

  • Shoot us an email at Jill.D@fultonbeer.com and we'll be more than happy to help!

  • Head over to www.bikereg.com/fulton-gran-fondo or boop the QR code on one of our posters. Signing up online saves you money, and it makes it much easier for you (and us) the morning of the ride.

It's $100 to sign up the morning of the ride, and you have to do, like, paperwork paperwork when all you want to do is hit the restroom and get rolling.

  • Sure! Join Joyful Riders on the second Thursday of every month at the taproom for a social ride. Roll out time is at 6pm, and you’ll receive a complimentary beverage when you make it back to the taproom!

WHAT’S UP WITH TIMED SEGMENT BEING OFFERED?

Based on warm reception last year, we’re bringing back a short timed segment, available only on the 100 mile Gran route. Riders for all three routes will receive a handlebar plate at check-in to help us more easily identify participants out on the road and at rest stops, but only those going 100 miles will have an extra little feature on theirs. If you're riding the Gran route, make sure your plate has a small RFID tag on the back, which will act as your timing chip and unique identifier. All you need to do to be tracked is mount the plate to your handlebars before you head out, and enjoy the ride. Shortly after the first rest stop, around 39 miles into the ride, you'll come to a route sign that indicates the start of the timed segment. Open up the taps and let it rip (responsibly and safely, of course, following all the rules of the road!!!) if you choose. You'll have about 6 miles of road with no stop signs and just a single right turn, after which you'll arrive at a second route sign, letting you know you've reached the end of the timed segment. We'll have our timing crew out there from 10:30-1pm, so you'll have plenty of time to get to rest stop 1, fuel up, and go for it. After all riders are through the timing sensors and back to the brewery, we'll have results posted on www.endurancepromotions.com. Since this is still a ride, not a race, we'll use the number from your RFID tag (it’s stuck to the back of your plate) as opposed to your name in the results so that you can see where you stacked up in the grand scheme of things without turning this into something too competitive. Questions? Email Andrew.B@fultonbeer.com and we'll gladly help out!

WHERE CAN I PARK IF I’M RIDING?

This is a great question. Graco Minnesota Inc has been kind enough to let us use their parking lot again. Please see the below photo of the lots in which you can park.
